Presented by Richard Raffan

This is your chance to see one of the world’s best known woodworkers in action using the tools he uses day to day.
In each demonstration Richard will show you how a range of tools and chucks can be used to best advantage. As he works, Richard will explain the techniques he uses and exactly what goes into each piece regards design, form, and function. No matter what your level of expertise, you can learn heaps watching this master woodturner in action.

Between the formal demonstrations you can meet Richard who is happy to answer your questions, offer unbiased advice on lathe tools and equipment, demonstrate specific techniques, or sign copies of his books.

A Different Plane
Using the handplane is a divine experience for many woodworkers. If you’re missing out on this bliss you’d better come to this talk, and move to a higher plane. Richard will show you how to tune up your plane’s performance, and how to improve your use of it. Heavenly times ahead.

Seat Yourself
Chairmaking used to be a separate trade. For good reason. Making a good, and perhaps even an original chair remains a challenging goal for many woodworkers. This talk will look at 2 chairs you could make at home and the router based jigs which Richard used to produce them.

1.15pm daily
Saturday & Sunday

The I.T. Dovetail method
Hand Cut dovetails still hold a daunting mystique for many woodworkers. Richard will demonstrate his simple method and inspire you to embrace this traditional and very satisfying joint. Give those expensive jigs a rest. Good for respect too.

2.15pm daily

Tortion Box
If you don’t know what a torsion box is you need to hear about it. If you do know what it is but not how to do it then you’ll be glad to be here too. This is an overview of a very useful technique to expand your woodworking.

3.15pm daily
Saturday & Sunday

Tips, Tricks and Techniques
The lessons of something over 30 years of woodworking won’t all fit into something over 30 minutes of talking of course. But it would be silly to waste the chance to gain from someone else’s experience of so many problems addressed, as well as stuff-ups thought about to be prevented next time.
